“I had the privilege of training at the Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson/RMANJ fellowship program where the depth of experience in clinical medicine, molecular genetics and embryology far exceeded most programs. I believe the heart of reproductive medicine lies in the embryology laboratory, and I am proud to have trained at this center of excellence.”

Marie D. Werner

MD, FACOG, HCLD/ALD (ABB)

Dr. Marie D. Werner is a board-certified Reproductive Endocrinologist, Obstetrician- Gynecologist, High-complexity Clinical Laboratory Director, and attending physician at Reproductive Medicine Associates of New Jersey, Eatontown. Dr. Werner is proud to fill the role of Program Director for the reproductive endocrinology fellowship at RMA. During her fellowship, Dr. Werner earned the 2015 ASRM Corporate Member Council In-Training Travel Award for the use of next-generation sequencing for pre-implantation screening of embryos. She was also awarded the 2014 Southbound Train Grant for her contributions at the Midwest Reproductive Symposium International. She led several major research studies including two large randomized control trials investigating the optimal media formulation for embryo culture and the use of next-generation sequencing for pre-implantation genetic screening of embryos and a large retrospective study on the impact of IVF stimulation medications on progesterone elevations which is widely cited and used in review talks around the world. Dr. Werner completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at NYU Langone Medical Center where she served as administrative chief resident. During residency, Dr. Werner was honored with the 2012 Chief Resident Teaching Award and 2012 Best Senior Resident Teaching Award. She obtained her B.A. from Boston College and her M.D. from New Jersey Medical School where she was awarded the Gold Humanism Honor Society, 2007 and the Yong Investigators Travel Grant-American Thyroid Association 2006.

Fellow Graduate 2014

“I feel incredibly fortunate to have trained at the Rutgers RWJ/RMANJ program, where its strong clinical training and hands on embryology and molecular biology laboratory experience helped me build a solid foundation for my career ahead. The institution’s guidance allowed me to lead several large research studies while providing the support and resources for us to shape the fellowship program from the ground up. I am honored to be continuing the tradition of helping new fellows maximize their educational experience as an attending physician at RMANJ.”

Kathleen H. Hong

MD, FACOG, HCLD/ALD (ABB)

Dr. Kathleen H. Hong, is a board-certified Reproductive Endocrinologist, Obstetrician Gynecologist, and High-complexity Clinical Laboratory Director at Reproductive Medicine Associates of New Jersey. She is on faculty as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Sciences at Rutgers – Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. During her fellowship, Dr. Hong led several research projects including four prospective clinical trials. In 2013, Dr. Hong was awarded the American Society for Reproductive Medicine’s In-Training Travel Award and In-Training Award for Research for her randomized trial: Endometrial Infusion of Human Chorionic Gonadropin at the Time of Blastocyst Embryo Transfer Does Not Improve Clinical Outcomes. She also received an ASRM Prize Poster Award in 2013 for Early Times to Cavitation are Associated with a Reduced Prevalence of Aneuploidy in Embryos Cultured to the Blastocyst Stage: A Prospective Blinded Morphokinetic Study. Dr. Hong is a graduate of Boston University where she completed the combined seven-year Liberal Arts/Medical Education Program. Acceptance into this accelerated program allowed Dr. Hong to focus her studies on medicine, while achieving her medical degree one year earlier than most programs offer. She completed her Obstetrics & Gynecology Residency at the prestigious New York Presbyterian Hospital – Weill Cornell Medical Center, under the guidance of Dr. Barry Shaktman. During residency, Dr. Hong was bestowed the House Staff Teaching Award in 2011 for her demonstration in clinical excellence and dedication to teaching.

Fellow Graduate 2013

“I chose to train at the RWJ/RMANJ program due to the amazing opportunities available for top-notch clinical ART patient care, dedicated mentorship, hands-on clinical embryology experience and cutting-edge research. The three years of fellowship were even better than I could have hoped for and helped shape my clinical and academic career. If I had to do it again, I would certainly choose the RWJ/RMANJ program again.”

Eric J. Forman

MD, FACOG, HCLD/ALD

Eric J. Forman, M.D., FACOG, HCLD/ALD, was the first Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility Fellow in the Robert Wood Johnson/ Reproductive Medicine Associates of New Jersey program. A board-certified Reproductive Endocrinologist, Obstetrician and Gynecologist, and High-complexity Clinical Laboratory Director, Dr. Forman is currently the Medical and Laboratory Director at Columbia University’s Center for Women’s Reproductive Care. In this role he oversees the medical practice as well as the IVF embryology and andrology laboratories. During his fellowship, Dr. Forman completed a variety of innovative research projects involving basic reproductive physiology, clinical embryology and IVF, including several randomized clinical trials. This research has resulted in more than a dozen peer-reviewed publications in leading infertility journals and more manuscripts in preparation. The Blastocyst Euploid Selective Transfer (BEST) Trial was awarded an in-training grant from the Corporate Member Council of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine in 2012 and a Prize at the 2013 Annual Clinical Meeting of the American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists. Another randomized trial on oocyte vitrification (egg freezing), was deemed a “watershed in ART” by one of the world’s experts on cryopreservation. Dr. Forman graduated from Duke University in Durham, NC with a degree in Mathematics and a minor in modern Hebrew. He earned his medical degree, summa cum laude, from SUNY Downstate College of Medicine in Brooklyn, NY, and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He completed his Obstetrics & Gynecology Residency at Duke University Medical Center where he received extensive training in minimally-invasive gynecologic surgery. During residency he was the lead author of the first survey of oncologists’ knowledge and practices regarding fertility preservation in female cancer patients. Dr. Forman’s interests include optimizing single embryo transfer, reproductive competence of individual embryos, fertility preservation, ovarian aging and pre-implantation genetic diagnosis, as well as medical ethics and the history of reproductive medicine.
